The Pennsylvania Turnpike plans to reconfigure the Breezewood Exit in Bedford County next year. The goal is to connect the Turnpike with I-70 which heads south into Maryland. Right now, vehicles exiting at Breezewood have to get on Route 30 to access I-70.

BREEZEWOOD, Pa. (KDKA) — The Pennsylvania Turnpike plans on redesigning the Breezewood Interchange. The turnpike is beginning the first steps of the redesign, accepting statements of interest from engineering firms through Oct. 17. The project includes a connection to I-70 and a three-mile reconstruction, widening the road to six lanes.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike will be redesigning the Breezewood Interchange (Exit 161) and adding a connection to Interstate 70 upon launching Open Road Tolling in January. According to a press release,

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission announced the beginning phases of a plan to redesign the Breezewood Interchange on Tuesday. Over 5 million drivers utilized the interchange in 2022, with 37% of those commuters being truck drivers.
