The N3 Toll Concession has confirmed that the toll route is now reopen to traffic following heavy snowfall at the weekend. Motorists travelling between Gauteng, Free State and KwaZulu-Natal were trapped since Friday,

At the moment, helicopters can't fly, tow trucks can't move, and alternative routes are gridlocked and blocked by substantial snowfall.

KZN Transport officials say there is help on the way for motorists snowed in on the N3 for more than 12 hours.

Motorists were seen seeking refuge at petrol stations along the N3 in KZN during a heavy snowfall. Some major roads were closed temporarily.
